Ibizan Hound / Podenco Ibicenco

The Ibizan Hound, also known as Podenco Ibicenco, is a breed with a long history dating back to ancient Egypt. Its ancestors were likely brought to the Balearic Islands, especially Ibiza, by traders such as the Phoenicians, Carthaginians, and Romans. These dogs were valued for their hunting skills, particularly in rabbit hunting, where they used their excellent hearing and sense of smell. They worked in packs, typically consisting of several females and one male to avoid conflicts between males. Today, the Ibizan Hound is not only a hunting dog but also a popular companion and sporting dog, excelling in disciplines such as coursing and racing.
